Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Oil

Alaskan sockeye salmon are among the purest of all ocean fish, consistently testing free of hazardous levels of contaminants. They are also richest of all salmon species in the powerful biological antioxidant, astaxanthin, a natural carotenoid that imparts a rich red color to our oil and eliminates the need for added tocopherols present in other brands. Natural EPA and DHA levels in our capsules reflect those actually found in wild salmon, enhancing bioavailability and reducing the risk of over consumption that may exist in highly concentrated, denatured alternatives.

How Well Do You Know Your Fish Oil Supplement?

Have you ever wondered where your fish oil comes from? Have you ever tried to find out? Most commercially available fish oils have rather mysterious origins. This is because many of them begin as a low grade by-product of rendering plants, requiring excessive processing before they are fit for human consumption. This process results in fish oil that is anything but natural. While molecular distillation is often advertised as a plus, and indeed does reduce contaminants, some researchers believe it also denatures the oil and lowers its beneficial value.

In contrast, like all of our products, Vital Choice Alaskan sockeye salmon oil is 100% natural. It is produced in a dedicated processing facility on the shores of Bristol Bay, Alaska from freshly caught, sustainably harvested sockeye salmon. (In fact, it is the only fish oil supplement in the world to carry the esteemed Marine Stewardship Council endorsement). As you may know, in addition to being abundant, the Alaskan sockeye is also one of the purest of all ocean species, and highest of all wild salmon in the powerful biological antioxidant, astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a natural carotenoid that gives our oil its rich orange color and is up to 100 times more potent than Vitamin E at quenching singlet oxygen "free radicals."

Immediately after extraction our oil is deep chilled and stored in airtight containers until filtered and encapsulated in a pharmaceutical grade processing facility. This basic yet thorough filtration process results in a pure, unadulterated salmon oil rich in health-promoting Omega-3s, as well as a naturally balanced "formula" of 32 other distinct fatty acid molecules (below).

Compare the vibrant red hue found in these Sockeye Oil Softgels with the the light yellow color of other fish oils.

Alaskan Sockeye Salmon are relatively small, short-lived fish that feed at the lower end of the food chain. Consequently they grow free of hazardous levels of contaminants found in larger, longer-lived carniverous species. After hatching in their natal rivers, sockeye swim upstream to remote, pristine fresh water lakes where they feed and grow for 1-3 years before migrating out to the Bering Sea. During this latter stage of their lives they feed primarily on phytoplankton and krill brimming with antioxidants and Omega-3 nutrients that give the sockeye its dramatic red flesh. Unlike farmed salmon, Alaskan Sockeye and all other wild Alaskan salmon species grow free of antibiotics, pesticides, synthetic coloring agents, growth hormones and GMOs.

For these reasons the EPA, FDA, the Alaska Division of Public Health and other organizations have found Alaskan salmon to be among the purest of seafood options, even recommending them to pregnant and nursing woman as a safe fatty fish source of vitally important nutrients.

Why does our body need Omega-3's,
and why don't we get enough in our diet?

Unless you are eating fatty acid fish at least 3-4 times a week, you are likely not getting enough Omega-3's in your diet. By taking Sockeye Salmon Oil daily, you will be providing your body with the Omega-3 essential fatty acids it craves.

Since their discovery in the 1970s, the Omega-3 essential fatty acids have generated thousands of studies and clinical trials. Essential to life and good health, they protect against disease and can treat illness. The Omega-3 fatty acids are essential at every stage of life, even before birth. They are found in the membrane of every cell in the body and help to ensure that the cell membrane is ideally equipped to do it's job. They are also used in the regulation of all biological functions, including those of the cardiovascular, reproductive, immune and nervous systems. Optimum health can only be achieved when sufficient Omega-3s are obtained from diet. They help maintain good health, promote brain and vision development and protect against disease. In chronic illness, it has been shown that an increase in the Omega-3 fatty acids of marine origin can effect an improvement across a range of conditions, both physical and mental. Research is continually producing positive findings for these vital nutrients. This excerpt has been taken from the Omega 3 Information Service website. This site offers a wealth of information on Omega-3 fatty acids and their numerous health benefits. It is must reading for those who are not familiar with Omega-3's.

As the Omega-3 fatty acids have powerful physiological effects, it is important that people on prescribed medicines, or who take aspirin on a regular basis, consult their doctor before taking fish oil supplements.

Additionalonal research can be found at the American Heart Association website concerning Fish and Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
